What is Culture? Season 2 – Episode #2: Work Relationships

Podcast - What is Culture? Season 2

Cristiana Salaoru, Business Process Outsourcing Manager in Tangoe’s Bucharest, Romania location, has been with the organization nearly seven years, including her time with Asentinel, before the acquisition. This interview is a reminder that no matter where our coworkers sit, all we need to do is take the time to learn more about them as a person, which will in turn, improve the culture, as well as our professional, working relationships.

Cristiana Salaoru, BPO Manager Cristiana says she listens to this podcast because she enjoys learning more about her colleagues—beyond work. In fact, she says the strongest relationships she has are with those coworkers with which she has had many informal conversations; when she learned about their interests, their backgrounds, their beliefs, and even their tastes in music or television.

Cristiana manages a team of 15, including two team leads who report to her daily, and she spends much of her time looking at invoices through the eyes of her clients to help better service their needs.

About halfway through the interview, I think partly as a result of listening to Cristiana talk about how important and helpful it is to learn more about a person, and/or a colleague, I changed directions, and we stopped talking about Tangoe and more about our ourselves. This is and has been one of the purposes of this show—to learn about our coworkers, since in many ways, our culture is the collection of our people.

Cristiana lives nearly 5,000 miles from me. But after our conversation, I learned that we like the same music. We watch the same television shows. We both have a passion for writing. We both enjoy being outside. It was eerie how similar we are. The biggest difference, however, was how talented she is as an artist.

I’ve included some of her pieces below.

Although it was a pleasure to learn more about our Bucharest location and the activities that are taking place there to nurture a positive culture, I really enjoyed simply talking to Cristiana and getting to learn more about her as a person. It was clear that she is a dedicated, loyal, and caring individual who works hard but takes the time to enjoy her life outside of work.
