As Managed Mobility Services (MMS) vendors continue to broaden both their scope of management capabilities and global support footprints, enterprises searching for third-party mobile technology help are finding it more difficult than ever to identify potential partners that closely align with technical, commercial, and operational visions.
Fortunately, Gartner just released its latest Magic Quadrant (MQ) for MMS report—saving actively searching organizations hours of time (and probably a few headaches) by centralizing the industry’s most popular solutions providers into one comprehensive analysis.
Explaining Gartner’s 2019 MQ for MMS
If you’re not familiar with this annually published report, Gartner’s 2019 MMS MQ encompasses the industry’s best vendor-provided IT and business process services to identify providers most capable of planning, procuring, provision, activating, managing, and supporting everything from mobile devices to network services and management systems.
This year, MMS industry players were evaluated and rated using five core deliverable categories:
1. Sourcing and Logistics Management
How capable is a potential MMS partner when it comes to supporting purchase, provisioning, and activation activities regarding network services, applications, and devices? And, what data delivery capabilities are possible through its expense management platform?
2. Managed Unified Endpoint Management (UEM)
How well is an MMS organization able to support your core technical capabilities when it comes to mobile device management, mobile application management, mobile identity, mobile content management, and data containment?
3. Security Management
Beyond the basics of UEM, can an MMS provider enhance enterprise access and resource consumption security through authentication, encryption, containerization, and cloud-based content collaboration? Does it filter content and domains or include anti-malware functionality?
4. Financial Management
Any MMS vendor should save an enterprise mobility effort money. Digging deeper, does it optimize sourcing, ordering and provisioning, inventory, invoice and contract, usage, and dispute management and reporting?
5. Program Management
Can a third-party mobile technology partner provide cohesive and effective management capabilities across multiple providers’ products, systems, account managers, support teams, and service-level agreements?
Misleading Results; Industry-Leading MMS
While the Tangoe name appears in Gartner’s 2019 MMS MQ’s Visionary quadrant, today’s Tangoe MMS solution is radically different from the one evaluated for the report. To deliver customers the best global combination of Telecom Expense Management (TEM) and MMS, we acquired MOBI and its Leader-ranked capabilities in December 2018—shortly after Gartner’s October 31st MQ cutoff date.
With our completed merger, MOBI has become the destination MMS solution for all Tangoe mobility customers. Today’s Tangoe MMS offering features none of the services or capabilities referenced under this report’s Tangoe name, so any enterprise evaluating us as an MMS vendor should instead assess the offering based on MOBI’s placement.
