What is Culture? Season 1 – Episode #1: Taking Ownership

What is Culture?

In 2018, Tangoe sent every employee Gallup’s Q12 Employee Engagement Survey to gauge how challenging and motivating their work is, and to also discover whether there’s a clear line of sight between their performance and the company’s overall goal. After analyzing the results, it was clear that there was room to improve employee engagement. So, Tangoe took the necessary next steps.

Shaun-McGrath-Podcast-Episode-2Today’s guest, Shaun McGrath, a Sales Development Manager located in our Shelton, Connecticut office, is also an Engagement Champion. So what does that mean, exactly?

Currently, Tangoe is focusing on both identifying and correcting the one thing that our organization can implement and/or correct in order to improve employee engagement. To identify this one thing, Tangoe appointed 22 “Engagement Champions” across eight major departments. Each Engagement Champion then held a focus group with their respective teams to identify their one thing and, ultimately, those eight proposals were taken to the Executive Team.

The day before I recorded this interview with Shaun, I was in a meeting with him, as well as all of the other Engagement Champions located in our Shelton office. Since I’m on a path to discovering our culture, I felt this was a meeting I should observe. Every one of the Engagement Champions spoke with such passion, such sincerity, and such honestly. And I felt that Shaun, specifically, would make a perfect guest for the show since he clearly has an interest and an opinion around culture and its importance.

As a Sales Development Manager for nearly three years, Shaun manages a team of Sales Development Reps who all work to uncover new business opportunities.

Here is my conversation with Shaun McGrath. Let’s all learn from him.
