What is Culture? Season 1 – Episode #2: The Employee Experience

What is Culture?

This past December, when our CEO, Bob Irwin, announced the MOBI acquisition to us at Tangoe, he spoke specifically about MOBI’s people, their culture, how they were beloved by their clients, how they’re core values were in direct alignment with ours. He talked about why this union was wonderful news for our employees, our clients, and for the industry.  I remember the room being a mixed bag of emotions.

About one month after receiving this news, I traveled to Indianapolis to visit MOBI’s headquarters – or I should say our goMobile headquarters, and I had an opportunity to speak with today’s guest, Chrissy Pfeiffer—a Business Analyst who works on the Automation team and who is also a member of the Culture Committee there.

Chrissy-Pfeiffer-Podcast-Episode-1Prior to our conversation, Chrissy never met me. She wasn’t aware of the premise of the show, and all I had to record was my Pixel smartphone. The idea for this show was essentially a week old and in its infancy, but something told me – just record and the rest will work itself out.

I told Chrissy about this podcast and that I would love to interview her when she had time. She said, “What about right now?” And we found an empty conference room and recorded. Just like that.

It was true learning experience to hear Chrissy talk about her role on the culture committee, and how that team strives every day to improve the employee experience. Still, I think Chrissy recognizes that an organization like Tangoe, now with over 2,200 employees scattered across the globe, is going to have to work overtime to cultivate a unified company culture. It will be a challenge – for sure. But it appears that we’re moving in the right direction, and I have a feeling that the Culture Committee will grow in size and likely spread across the entire organization.

Here is my conversation with Chrissy Pfeiffer. Let’s all learn from her.

About the Podcast

How does Tangoe—a global organization with over 2,200 employees in 11 countries, who has acquired several organizations throughout its nearly 20-year history—maintain, nurture, or alter its collective company culture? Can it be done? Before answering that, an organization must first discover its culture as it currently exists—without judgement. And that’s precisely what this podcast aims to do. Join us as we rediscover Tangoe’s culture through a series of candid interviews with employees, industry analysts, clients, and more. Learn more about the podcast What is Culture?
